In honor of Dr. Adolph Goldschmidt, of the University of Berlin, and visiting lecturer at Harvard on Fine Arts and the History of German Culture, and Exhibition of seventeenth century Dutch Art is now being shown at the Fogg Art Museum.
Through the generosity of other museums and friends, an unusual collection of paintings, prints, and drawings has been assembled, which has an appeal not only to the student of art but also to the general public.
Among the paintings on exhibition are several interiors by Pieter de Hooch; a portrait and an interior by Terborch; a banquet scene by Dirk Hals; landscapes by Hobbema and Ruisdael, and a portrait by Antonio Moro.
Perhaps the crowning feature of the exhibition is a group of portraits by Rembrandt, who was called by one authority on Dutch art "an independent genius. . . . the supreme glory of the Dutch nation."
All seventeenth century Dutch art is noted for its originality and wonderful light effects.
