In the finals of these informal races crew C, stroked by James Lawrence '29, won with crew B stroked by C. McK. Norton '29 finishing second. Crews D and A finished third and fourth respectively. They were stroked by A. C. Gray '30 and M. R. Brownell '30.
By this system Coach E. J. Brown '96 is following the same plan of action he did last spring, seeking to put his charges to a test under racing conditions. On next Tuesday, it is expected, he will switch the boatings. It is likely now that he will hold all of the candidates, shifting the order so that the more promising candidates will be in three boats instead of scattered, as now is the case.
The races were run over a one and five-sixteenths mile course. The strokes had been ordered to keep the pace down, and as a consequence no exceptional times were turned in. Captain John Watts '28 did not figure in Saturday's race having been ill for several days. It is believed, however, that he will be back in action today. C. H. Pforzheimer '28, second University coxswain last year, was also idle due to illness.
