The optional examinations and the first year scholarship examinations of the Harvard Law School will be held on the same day and at the same hour this year, January 5, at 2 o'clock. Hitherto the scholarship examinations have been held about December 15 and the optionals about February 15.
No record is made of the optional examinations as they are intended to enable first year men to become acquainted with the general from of the law examinations. So far this plan has proved very successful, although there have been instances when the general opinion was that the optional examinations tended to be misleading, and did not represent a typical law examination.
As a result of the scholarship examinations, 15 awards will be made as follows:
Class of 1913--two: Harvard Law School Association--ten: Herbert Parker --one. Robert T. Swaine--one; Rutherford B. Hayes--one: Shelton Hale--one.
Due to the fact that, at the time when some of these scholarships were awarded, the tuition was considerably less than it is at present, it is necessary to increase them up to $400, the present tuition rate.
