The Aldrich Library of Finance in the Baker Library of the Business School was dedicated yesterday afternoon in the presence of the donors, officials of the University, and invited guests.
The library and the room to house it are the gift of the family of the late Senator Nelson W. Aldrich of Rhode Island, and are presented to Harvard as a memorial to him. The books constitute the personal library of the late senator, and the room was designed by his son. William T. Aldrich.
The dedication took place in the Faculty Club of the Business School, following a buffet luncheon served there. President Lowell, William T. Aldrich, and O. M. W. Sprague '94. Converse Professor of Banking in the Business School, spoke at the ceremonies, paying tribute to the senior Mr. Aldrich and explaining the useful purpose of the library. W. B. Donham '98, Dean of the Business School, presided.
The collection consists of some 10,000 volumes, many especially bound, relating to financial matters. The history as well as the practice of banking and of tariff making is represented, and there is a shelf of biographies of famous economists.
