Chafee and Pound Teams in Tie; to Eliminate One Soon

The second year Law Clubs which survived the preliminary matches of the Ames Competition and plans for them in the quarter final round were announced yesterday on the docket published by the Board of Advisors.

In the preliminary competitions just concluded nine teams proved themselves superior to the other 25 entered; but as only eight may enter the quarter final round, decision has been made to eliminate one of the two clubs, Chafee and Pound, tied for the last entry position in the next series. In order to do this, a committee of the Board of Advisors will pass upon and select the better of the two sets of briefs submitted by the two tying clubs for the next debate. The team submitting the better briefs will then take its place with the other seven winning clubs at the start of the quarter finals. The nine surviving clubs in the order, in which they finished are Sanford, Sargent, Sutherland, Edward Warren, James-Bryce, Pollock-Choate, Cardozo, Chafee, and Pound.

The first arguments in the quarterfinal series will take place on February 6 when the Cardozo Club meets the surviving Pound or Chafee team. For this match the Chief Justice will be W. E. McCurdy '16, Assistant Professor of Law. On the next night, the Pollock-Choate combination will meet the Sargent Club and the Chief Justice will be J. A. McLaughlin, Assistant Professor of Law.

On February 8 the Bryce and Sanford Clubs will argue under Joseph Warren '97, Bussey Professor of Law, who has been selected Chief Justice. The final match in this series will be on February 10 when the Sutherland Club meets the team of the Warren Club. At this argument Roscoe Pound, Hon. '20, Dean of the Faculty of Law, will be Chief Justice.

Associate Justices at all the matches will be selected from prominent members of the legal profession in Boston.
