Fall Baseball Candidates to Report to Coach Mitchell Today--43 Veterans Invited to Join Practice Workouts

Coach F. S. Mitchell will greet his 1928 baseball team when candidates for fall practice assemble at the Soldiers Field Locker Building this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Forty-three men have been invited by Coach Mitchell to report for three weeks outdoor work. This favored list was chosen entirely from the experienced men on last year's squads. Other men reporting will be assigned to another squad.

With a record of 30 victories and five losses last spring, the University nine completed one of its most successful seasons in recent years. Pennsylvania and Tufts were the only teams on the schedule which remained undefeated by Harvard. The Yale series was won in two straight games when Captain Isadore Zarakov '27 drove out a home run in the ninth inning of the second engagement.

Ten men who won letters in that campaign will be available to furnish Mitchell with a working basis for a strong nine. Seven of the positions could be filled with seasoned veterans. The four infield posts might be taken care of by W. W. Lord '28, R. C. Sullivan '28, G. E. Donaghy '29, and J. P. Chase '28. Captain H. W. Burns '28 and W. B. Jones '28 are back to fill two outfield berths, and the pitching staff is almost intact, with J. N. Barbee '28, F. B. Cutts '28, Willard Howard '28, and E. R. Ketchum '29 ready to step on the mound.
