RACQUETMEN BEAT PHILADELPHIANS

State Champion Downs Last Year's Crimson Captain -- Cazalet and Dixon Victorious

Detroit, Michigan, February 20--The Harvard squash team eked out victory over the Philadelphia team here today 3 to 2 by the narrowest of margins, while in the outstanding match of the singles play M P. Baker '22 defeated G. P. Debevoise '26.

The Harvard team was tied with the Philadelphia team, each having two matches to its credit, and the last game was tied at 13 all, before Harvard managed to win. V. A. Cazalet, captain of the British team and member of Parliament, won his match in the singles competition with W. R. Boocock of Buffalo in straight games. R. S. Wright '26 won by default from Eugene Hinkle, and W. P. Dixon '25, the United States singles champion, defeated Greening of Canada in straight games.

The Harvard team must defeat the English before it can gain permanent possession of the trophy, on which it now has two legs won from previous championships.

The Baker-Debevoise match is of especial interest to Harvard followers of the game, both being Harvard graduates, and since Baker is the Massachusetts champion and Debevoise was captain of the Harvard team last year.

Dixon, present title holder, Cazalet, singles champion of England last year, Wright and Baker are the four most favored competitors in the race for the crown. Cazalet has beaten both Dixon and Wright, scoring a comparatively easy win over Dixon, and coming up from behind to beat Wright in the Canadian championship finals.
