As a means of enabling young student writers and cartoonists to have their works published, the United Feature Syndicate of New York, owned and operated by the United Press Association, is organizing a newspaper service which will handle the articles of the students. All authors and cartoonists will be paid upon the sale of their material.
The plan is to have the writers send in a series of weekly manuscripts for distribution to the various newspapers and magazines in the country. The five or six of the best articles submitted will be sent for Saturday or Sunday publication to the newspapers that are willing to pay a fair price for them.
Thirty three and one third percent of the gross proceeds from the sale of the articles will go to the owners, and similar amounts will be divided between the Syndicate and its editors. The Syndicate will defray all cost of printing, distribution, exploitation, and sales: keep the accounts, make collections, and in general conduct all the business matters connected with the service.
The student writer's share will be computed weekly and will be divided equally among the five or six contributors whose works are published in that week's service. Each month a statement will be rendered to the contributors, showing the number of papers sold and the amount received for them.
Students of all universities and colleges are eligible to send in articles. No manuscript must exceed 500 words, and should be sent in at an early date, in order that the service may be started by January 1.
All material should be sent to Howard Wheeler, General Manager, United Feature Syndicate. World Building, New York City, N. Y.
