Due to the new policy of condemning poor horses and replacing them by mounts given to the Harvard R. O. T. C., by interested alumni, the Crimson Polo Squad is taking the first step toward a drive for the intercollegiate championship.
At present, the University owns 35 horses of which only 11 can be used for polo. Of these 35, all but four are said to be eligible for condemnation.
As a start, two good polo ponies were given to the stables by Herbert Lloyd '30. With Major-General Brown's permission, two of the infirm horses have been removed to make place for Lloyd's ponies.
This advance in polo is largely due to the efforts of Major J. B. Wogan, and to the interest shown by alumni of the University. It is expected that further donations of trained ponies will take place.
The new horses must first meet government specifications but if they are too light for polo ponies, it is probable they will be used for routine riding purposes. In return, the War Department will present one silver dollar to the donator.
