Boxing practice under Coach L. J. Conley is getting started in Hemenway Gymnasium, and promises to be one of the most active intramural sports this winter. Last year 250 men were out for boxing, and early indications are that this number will be equalled or exceeded this year when football, crew, and soccer end their seasons.
W. W. Lord '28, end on the University football team, and heavyweight champion in the University bouts last year, will be back in the ring this winter. John Parkinson Jr. '29, middleweight contender for the championship in the bouts last March, will also be boxing this year. F. R. Sullivan 1G.B., the coxswain of the University crew which defeated Yale last spring, did well in the bantam weight class last season, and is expected to offer strong competition for the title in the final bouts.
Due to a ruling of the Committee on the Regulation of Athletic Sports, following the test bouts with M. I. T. last year, boxing is not to be an intercollegiate sport this year. The undergraduate members of the committee stated that boxing did not lend itself to intercollegiate athletic competition, and on their recommendation the sport was confined within intramural limits.
