J.L. Peters '13, Assistant Curator of Ornithology at the University, and Edward Bangs '21, are tomorrow starting on an ornithological expedition to the Corn Islands, which lie off the coast of Honduras, and have not previously been surveyed for an analysis of their bird life.
In addition to the work in the Corn Islands, Peters will study the birds of an unfrequented desert region in Nicaragua, and expects to return to the University in April or May of next year.
The Corn Islands are inhabited by only a few natives, and a missionary, and are heavily wooded. Special arrangements have been made with a United Fruit Company boat to disembark the University expedition on the islands, which are not a port of call, and are at a considerable distance from the regular steamer lanes.
