Over one-half of the Freshman class has anticipated English. A according to figures given out yesterday by the English Department. This large increase in those anticipating the course is due to the innovation, announced last spring by Professor Bliss Perry, in charge of the course at that time, which allowed those men who received grades of 70 per cent or higher in their College Board English examinations exemption from English A.
This course is the prescribed composition course for Freshmen. In previous years only those men who passed a special test were allowed to omit the course from their schedule. Last years there were over 800 men enrolled, while only 100 men anticipated the course.
This year, of a class of 1011, there are 446 Freshmen enrolled in English A.
The plan of the course this year will be essentially the same as that made by Professor Perry for last year.
