The Legal Aid Bureau has handled more cases this month than in any previous October, according to an announcement by S. L. Rosenberry 3L., newly elected president of the bureau. The list of officers for this year was given out by Rosenberry, who also announced that the annual report is ready for the printer, and will be sent to members of the National Association of Legal Aid Societies.
The cases in which the bureau has participated include many types of civil suits, from those brought against men for the break-down of defective rented automobiles, to non-support claims and divorce proceedings. Twenty cases have already been handled or are in court at the present time, while many more have been considered, but were not accepted because unsuited to the purposes or the scope of the Bureau. Aid is given only in circumstances which render the employment of a registered lawyer by the contestant financialy impossible.
Rosenberry pointed out in his announcement that this month has been by far the best in the history of the Legal Aid Bureau for the start of the year, both in the number of cases considered, and in those taken for court procedure. Other cases are available which involve interesting points in civil law, and are being considered by the bureau.
The officers in addition to Rosenberry are; J. C. Morley 3L., vice-president; F. C. Reed 3L., secretary; J. R. Quarles 3L., treasurer; and W. H. Jeffers 3L., E. R. Hoover 2L., and J. P. Tumulty 2L., directors.
