New Haven, Conn., Sept. 23 Mrs. Mary Sweazey, proud possessor of a three story brick building on High Street in this city, is literally sitting athwart the $12,000,000 expansion program of Yale University. Directly in the path of the growth of Yale University is her house, and nothing short of a court order seems likely to evict her.
The house is assessed by New Haven authorities at $16,000. The liberal trustees of Yale University are reported to have offered her $85,000 for it. But her price is still $125,000.
The John W. Sterling Library, Yale's latest Gothic addition can never become an actuality until Mrs. Mary Sweszey is brought to terms. Just what result can be produced by court action seems uncertain and it is hoped that some compromise may be reached. Meanwhile Mrs. Sweazey is continuing arrangements to lease rooms to students again as she has done in recent years.
