SUMMER TUTORIAL READING

By a skeleton extension of the tutorial system, the Summer School is now brought into closer connection with the College. With this adjustment, the instruction of the vacation period settles more firmly into its place in the Harvard educational system.

The advantages of tutorial work need no repetition in these columns. The contact with more mature minds, the opportunity offered for intellectual stimulus, have transformed the system from an experiment to an integral part of Harvard instruction.

By providing facilities for summer tutorial reading, the authorities are simply raising this vagabond branch of the University to the standard set by the College. The Summer School will now become something more than a short cut to a degree or a life raft for low rank students.
