Architecture Professor Given Greatest Honor in His Profession

One of the greatest honors which can be achieved by an American architect, was conferred upon Professor Charles Wilson Killam, a member of the faculty of the School of Architecture, when he was elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Architecture at its recent convention in Washington.

The American Institute of Architecture is an old institution originated over fifty years ago, and it counts in its membership architects from all parts of the United States. There are in the Institute to divisions: That of the Members, comprising the large majority of those belonging to the Institute, and that of the Fellows. The latter compose less than one-tenth of the entire membership, and elevation to the rank of Fellow, is an honor conferred upon comparatively few men.

The distinction of Fellow of the American Institute of Architecture is given for a notable contribution to architecture in the fields of design, construction, education, public service, or some other similar work connected with the science of architecture. The honor was given to Professor Killam for his services to architecture in the field of education.

Professor Killam is a native of Boston, and early went into the office of Peabody and Stearns, Boston architects. He later became a teacher in Cambridge School of Architecture for Women, and from here, he was called to the University, and came to the Department of Architecture in the year 1908-09, as an instructor in architecture and civil engineering.

For 1909 to 1915, he was professor of architectural construction and in the latter year became associate professor of architecture, becoming a full professor of architecture two years ago. In 1918 he, was made, in addition, Chairman of the Council of the School of Architecture.
