The University and Freshman crews are expected to appear on the river this afternoon for the first time this year Following the work that was done last week in cutting the ice on the river, the water seemed yesterday to be clear enough for the appearance of the shells. Coach Stevens and Coach Haines, however, expressed themselves as uncertain last night as to whether the regular crews would be able to go cut. In any case some of the Freshmen are sure to get on the water in the Leviathan, which will not be in so much dance, from floating ice cakes as the more delicate shells.

Last year the crews took to the river on February 14, and the year before on March 19. This year they are behind their usual schedule and also behind all of the other big universities of the East. Yale has been rowing in open water for over a week, and Princeton and the Navy have been out of almost a month
