FRESHMAN FENCERS LOSE TO BOSTON HIGH OF COMMERCE

Emerson Outstabs Umbsen to Win Decision, 5-4

The Freshman fencers relinquished the victory of a hard-fought meet to the team of the Boston High School of Commerce yesterday at the gymnasium of the school, losing by the score of 5-4.

The work of Emerson for the High School of Commerce was superb. He was opposed for the championship of the day by G. H. Umbsen '29, who lost it to him in the closest battle of the meet.

This is the first defeat suffered by the Freshmen thus far, they having won easily in their first two starts.

The referee of the meet was R. L. Loomis '11, who in 1911 was intercollegiate fencing champion. The summary of the matches follows:

G. H. Umbsen '29 defeated Neitlich (H. S. C.) 5-2 and Kean (H. S. C.) 5-2 and lost to Emerson (H. S. C.) 5-2. D. F. Edgar '29 lost to Emerson (H. S. C.) 5-1, to Neitlich (H. S. C.) 5-3, and to Kean (H. S. C.) 51. Hollister '29 defeated Kean (H. C. S.) 5-3, and Desmond (H. S. C.) 5-1, and lost to Emerson (H. S. C.) 5-3.
