BIG THREE DEBATE TOPIC IS CHANGED TO PERMIT OF WIT

"Resolved, That Education Is the Curse of the Present Age" Supplants Compulsory Training Issue

The Harvard-Yale-Princeton Triangular debate subject has been changed to one of a lighter nature, it was announced last night by D. W. Chapman '27, president of the University Debating Council. The new question is; "Resolved, That education is the curse of the present age."

At the last conference of the Intercollegiate Debating League, Harvard. Yale, and Princeton asked that they be assigned a semi humorous subject for their annual debate on March 27. This request was allowed at the time but they were later assigned the subject: "Resolved. That compulsory enrolment in the Reserve Officers Training Corps should be abolished."

Protest is Upheld

The three universities protested to the league and permission was granted then to choose their own subject.

Trials for the debate will be held tomorrow in Harvard 6 at 7 o'clock. These trials are open to all undergraduates who will be called upon to make short speeches.

This year H. P. Sharp IL. will coach the team for the first time. Sharp was a prominent member of the debating team in 1924 and 1925.

Orators Have Been Successful

The University team has been successful in its meeting so far this year, having won three and lost one by default, so that the University is now one of the holders of first position in the league.

When questioned about the prospects for success in the coming debate, Chapman said: "There is a great deal of good material in the college and if we can whip it into shape, things look decidedly bright."
