William Partridge Ellison '27, of Newton, was elected captain of the 1927 hockey team at a meeting of the letter men yesterday afternoon. Ellison, who has been a regular on the sextet for the past two seasons, was one of the strongest defense men on this year's team. He prepared at Andover, where he played hockey and baseball for two years, captaining the sextet in his Senior year. As a Freshman in the University Ellison was injured during the football season and was able to play only in the last few hockey games. He won his numerals in a third sport during the baseball season. In his Sophomore year he won his letter in both hockey and baseball, and this year was again at one of the defense positions on the hockey team. Although unable to play in the early season games, he returned for the Princeton, Dartmouth, Yale series and lent added power to the Crimson defense in the final victories of the season.
Team Most Successful in Years
The men who chose Ellison to lead next year's sextet have formed one of the most successful Crimson hockey teams of recent years. After rather a slow start, they first showed their real power in holding the strong Toronto sextet to a 2 to 0 score. A few days later they invaded Princeton and took the Tiger's measure by a close margin. Showing increasing finish and power and making full use of their remarkable reserve strength they swept on to victories over Williams, Yale, and Princeton again. The final test of the season come in the Dartmouth game which the University skaters won in a hotly contested overtime period.
Prospects for next year are unusually bright in view of the fact that only four letter men, Captain Cumings, Pratt, Harding, and Howe will be lost by graduation. In addition to the eight letter men from this year's team who are returning there - will be the undefeated Freshman sextet to draw from.
