Facing the hardest schedule any Harvard basketball team ever was called upon to meet, the 1926 quintet will open its season on December 17, playing the strong Boston University team. Fourteen games in all complete the list. Yale, Holy Cross, Dartmouth, Brown and Princeton are the high spots on the schedule.
This will be the first time since the war that the University team has met the Tiger aggregation. The game will be played at Princeton.
Team Is Weakened
Viewing this season with the material on hand, Coach Edward Wachter will start the schedule with a rather dark outlook. The ineligibility of S. C. Burns '29 and Benjamin Thackaberry '29, mainstays of last year's Freshman team, and the loss by graduation of Captain W. T. Smith '26, and C. J. Rauh of last year's University five, have reduced the offensive power of the squad.
Five letter-men remain: J. N. Rarbee Jr. '28, W. Van A. Coombs '27, Kenneth Dorn '27, J. D. Leekley '27, and Captain J. S. Malick '27. Born and Leekley are forwards, while the other three guard the basket.
McCurdy is Ineligible
The center position will be Coach Wachter's problem, McCurdy, who substituted for Rauh last year's pivot man, was counted upon to play center this year, but academic difficulties will prevent him from donning court togs.
The complete schedule follows:
December 17, Boston University.
January 8, M. I. T. at M. I. T.
January 12, Clark University.
January 19, Worcester P. I.
January 29, Connecticut Agricultural College.
