POLITICAL SMOKER TO OPEN DEBATING UNION'S CAMPAIGN

Walsh, Carney, Cabot Listed--O'Hara in Announcer's Role--Private Wire to Bring Campaign Returns

An Election Night Smoker will be held in the Living Room of the Union next Tuesday evening beginning at 8.30 o'clock, according to an announcement made last night by W. S. Stone 1L, Graduate Secretary of the Union.

Ex-Senator David I. Walsh, Democratic opponent of Senator Butler will head the list of speakers. He will be accompanied on the platform by the Honorable J. G. Carney, president of the Central Labor Union of Boston. Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. '23, chairman of Republican Associates Inc., and Neal O'Hara '15, newspaper columist.

The Smoker will be under the auspices of the Debating Union, the fortunes of which for the coming year have been entrusted to a newly appointed committee of eight graduates and undergraduates. A Western Union wire has been leased for the evening and during the speaking the returns from throughout the nation will be received.

Wets vs. Drys Is Issue

The significance of this year's election with reference to the forthcoming presidential year will be stressed by those on the platform. As the results of Tuesday's ballotting will almost certainly decide the availability of Prohibition as the national issue in 1928, it is expected that the speakers will describe in detail the battle between the Wets and the Drys without respect to party that has distinguished this year's campaign.
