DALEY UNDERGOES OPERATION TODAY

Team A Given Rest After Dartmouth Encounter -- Yale Applications to Close Thursday

L. F. Daley '27, regular guard on the Harvard football team, will undergo an operation for appendicitis this morning according to an announcement made in Cambridge yesterday afternoon. Dr. T. K. Richards '15, Harvard football physician for the last few years, will perform the operation.

After a consultation between Dr. Richards and Dr. R. C. Cochran, it was decided that too much risk was attached to postponing the operation until the end of the present football season Since he entered college three years ago Daley has been the victim of a series of football injuries which has prevented his appearance in the starting lineup of any Yale contest.

Injuries Shadow Daley

Although he captained the first-year eleven of three seasons ago, he was injured so badly early in the season that he only played a few minutes against Yale. After Daley had won a regular guard berth in his Sophomore year, he banged his knee the first play of the Princeton game and was out of the line up for the rest of that season and most of the following year.

Coach Horween declared yesterday that he intends to start his first-string lineup against Tufts in the Stadium next Saturday. All of the Harvard players will be in shape by next Saturday, no injuries having been sustained against Dartmouth.

With all of the University squad in uniform yesterday except Bell and Simonds, Coach Horween permitted the men who had played most of the Dartmouth game to take things easy while he ordered a scrimmage against Coach Knox's second eleven for the University substitutes.

Capt, Coady was the only University player to take part in the half hour punting session allotted each afternoon at the beginning of practice. The Harvard leader, who surprised the crowd in the Stadium by taking over the kicking assignment unheralded and averaging better than 41 yards from the line of scrimmage has apparently lost none of the skill he displayed a year ago, and is fairly certain to keep the Crimson well in the running during the remainder of the season. French was in uniform yesterday, spending the bulk of the afternoon practicing passes with Putnam and Guarnaccia.
