STIFF FIGHTS ABOUND AS TENNIS TOURNEYS NARROW

The University fall tennis tournaments are narrowing down to the semi-final round after ten days of almost uninterrupted competition. J.F.W. Whitbeck '27 yesterday defeated Frank Donovan 1L., 6-1, 6-3, to be the first to reach the semi-finals. P.M. Lenhart '27 also triumphed over B.H. Whitbeck '29, 6-3, 6-3 to reach the penultimate round.

The hardest match of the day was between Arthur Ingraham '30 and Joseph Van Ende 1G.B., conqueror of M. T. Hill '30, a seeded player, to reach the fourth round. Ingraham yesterday won 7-5, 7-5 after a severe contest.

In the doubles play, J. F. W. Whitbeck '27 and L. H. Gordon '27 have swept through to the semi finals without losing a set. J. H. Appleton '29, and J. C. Rueter '29, furnished an upset by defeating Frank Donovan 1L and T. E. Jansen Jr. 1L., who were favored as finalists, by the score of 1-6, 8-6, 6-2. Few other teams have reached the third round.
