The Instrumental Clubs will make their formal debut November 5, the night before the Princeton game in a joint concert with the Princeton musical clubs at Sanders Theatre. There are 120 members in the four branches of the Instrumental Clubs who will perform next month at the Princeton festival.
The Mandolin Club with some 40 players will confine its activities to interpreting light classical music this year. The only numbers as yet certain of being on its program are the "Volga Boat Song" and the Intermezzo from 'Maila."
Banjos Rattle Off Marches
The Banjo Club will specialize in marches of the lively variety. Its 40 members will present a new arrangement of the football medley and the Second Connecticut March at the Princeton concert.
The Vocal Club will sing old college songs, a few light classical pieces, and other popular melodies. Its purpose is to each the fundamentals of group singing and keep active the traditional college songs. The Vocal Unit will not take part in any combined concerts but will perform at all local appearances of the Instrumental Clubs.
Gold Coast Orchestra Broadcasts
The Gold Coast Orchestra, of the Specialty branch of the Instrumental organization, headed this year by C. E. Henderson '28, will have phonograph records made of some of its dance interpretations. Radio broadcasting will be another feature of its work this year. The Gold Coast players will furnish dance music, ranging from the classical to the barbaric, at all the scheduled concerts this season, and will play at the end of each concert for the benefit of those who wish to dance.
A Christmas trip to Chicago, Milwaukee, and several other western cities has been arranged. President R. T. Flood '27 of the Instrumental Clubs will only take 50 men with him on this western trip, and they will presumably be the most versatile as well as the best players on the organization. Another selected group of Banjo and Mandolin Club men will be judged by their playing during the early rehearsals and concerts as to their eligibility for these trips.
