Over 45 men have been reporting regularly for soccer practice on Soldiers. Field since the initial meeting last Wednesday and conditioning work is progressing rapidly. Coach T. B. White will have an assistant this year, whose name will be announced later, to aid him in tutoring a second team. A schedule of games is to be arranged with local industrial teams for the Seconds.
The University soccer squad will have eight games on its schedule this year with a number of practice tilts arranged for mid-week dates. The opening game will be with Wesleyan on the home field tomorrow afternoon. Coach White considers the material exceptionally promising since he has a nucleus of veterans back and all the members of last year's Freshman team for candidates.
J. J. Drohan, a noted soccer player and all-around athlete, will coach the Freshmen this year. Coach Drohan has had 25 years' experience in Europe and America as a soccer player, and has coached teams in Singapore and Penang in the Malay States as an agent of the British government. He has studied physical education for the last few years and will stress conditioning in the early part of the season.
A squad of 20 Freshmen has been formed and practice in dribbling and team-play will occupy the first few days. Three of the candidates have played in Europe before and several others have had previous experience in this country. The first game will be against Tabor Academy next Saturday.
Manager C. R. Keene '28 has issued a call for additional candidates in both the University and Freshman manageririal competitions. New players may join the squad at Soldiers Field any afternoon at 3 o'clock practice.
