A meeting at 2.30 o'clock this afternoon at the Locker Building at Soldiers Field will inaugurate the fall track season. Captain W. L. Tibbetts '26, Manager S. deJ. Osborne '26, and Coach Farrell will address the candidates. All candidates for the Freshman and University teams are expected to report.
"Latent ability, which a man never knew he possessed in school, has made many a famous track athlete in college," said Coach Farrell to a CRIMSON reported. "I urge new men without experience to come out at this time. I expect at least 150 new men to report."
Tibbets Has Brilliant Record
Captain Tibbetts heads the list of returning stars of last year's team. The climax of his brilliant career as a track athlete came this summer when he beat out Morgan of Oxford, to win the two-mile journey in the H-Y-O-C meet. Tibbetts was unbeaten in that event throughout the outdoor season, including the I. C. A. A. A. A. meet in Philadelphia.
J. N. Watters '26, winner of the 1924 Intercollegiate half-mile championship, and E. C. Haggerty '27, mile Intercollegiate winner of 1925 should also be heavy point winners this year.
C. G. T. Lundell '27, winner of the 220-yard dash in the Princeton meet last spring, F. P. Kane '26, quarter miler and hurdler, J. H. Broome '26, broad jumper and quarter miler, H. A. Secrist '27, broad jumper, Lee Combs, pole vaulter, S. D. Jones '27, high jumper, and J. M. Potter '26 will add strength to the Crimson track hopes.
