Competition among embryo playwrights for the authorship of the 1926 production of the Hasty Pudding Club will begin this spring, it was announced last night by W. S. Martin '26 and J. C. Murphy '25, co-authors of "Laugh It Off," this year's Hasty Pudding offering.
All undergraduates returning to College next year will be eligible to submit manuscripts, it was announced, and the winning author, or authors, will be automatically elected to the club, if he is not already a member.
Men intending to compete have been asked to submit their names to W. S. Martin '26 at 13 Randolph Hall before next Monday. They will be expected to work on their plays during the summer, and submit a scenario of the plot on their return to Cambridge next fall. The authors of the best scenarios will then be required to expand their outlines into full musical comedy books.
The requirements for Hasty Pudding productions are much the same as for any professional musical comedy, with especial emphasis on simplicity of costume and scenery, and as great an economy of cast as possible. The proper length for the book is about 50 typewritten pages, exclusive of lyrics, most of which will not be required until the close of the competition for musical number next fall.
