Coach Stevens began the grading of the crews under his direction yesterday by dropping three oarsmen from the first squad and announcing tentative seatings for the three eights under his supervision, which will probably remain permanent for the next two or three weeks. W. K. Rice '27, who stroked the Freshman crew against Yale last year. D. H. Bowles '27, who rowed in the Combination eight, and J. R. Harrison '27 were the men assigned to Coach Brown's class crews.
J. W. Adie '26 will be definitely lost to the crew this year because of scholastic difficulties, according to an announcement made yesterday. Adie rowed in the Crimson shell against Yale last year and stroked the 1926 boat at New London the previous year. His loss leaves Coach Stevens with a nucleus of but three letter men for this year's crew, namely, Captain Kelley, Johnson, and Winthrop.
Until yesterday, Coach Stevens had made no effort to differentiate between the candidates who were rowing on crews Y and Z. He has announced, however, that crew Y as it is rowing at present, will constitute the second crew, and crew Z the third.
The seating of the first three boats follows:
Crew X--Stroke, Robert Winthrop '26; 7, Geoffrey Platt '27; 6, J. W. Gates '27; 5, G. R. Johnson '25; 4, D. C. Gates '26; 3, V. F. Righter '26; 2, C. O'D. Iselin '26; bow, S. B. Kelley '25; cox., C. S. Heard '25.
