The thinking young people of today, from our colleges and other educational institutions, are the ones who will determine the success or failure of our government for a new foundation of the Jewish homestead." This was the statement of Louis Lipsky, editor of "The New Palestine", and president of the Zionist Society of America, when questioned yesterday concerning the movement of that society for a return to Palestine and resettlement of the Holy land.
"The idea", he said, "has been a great success. The people are living under a communal government and devoting all their interests to the common ideals of the state. They are deriving the happiness which comes from the realization of entire cooperation toward a common goal."
Movement is Popular in Europe
The movement as Mr. Lipsky explained it, originated several years ago and has been exceptionally popular with the Jewish people of Europe. There has been a great influx of the Jewish population of all these countries to Palestine and they have succeeded in establishing a colony, run on such a basis that it is entirely supporting within itself. The purpose of the Zionist Society in the United States is to foster American interest and cooperation in the movement.
American Jews Not Very Enthusiastic
"The young Jews of America", said Mr. Lipsky, who has just been making a study of the conditions of the society in Europe, "are not nearly so elert or willing to help the cause as those of other countries. I have seen a Zionist meeting in Berlin at which fully 500 Jews must have been present. In the back of the room were about 200 students who, when the officers of the society entered, arose and saluted, so anxious were they to be of any possible help. In America I find not nearly so much cooperation, either among the students in our colleges or the men of the business world."
