THE CRIMSON PLAYGOER

Former Dramatic Club Actor Star of "In the Next Room" at the St. James--Typical Mystery Thriller Well Handled by Stock Company

It is Harvard week, or more appropriately Collier week, at the St. James. Given his first chance to display his real capabilities as an actor, this graduate of the Harvard Dramatic Club and the 47 Workshop was largely responsible for the success of "In the Next Room", the mystery thriller which the Boston Stock Company is putting on this week.

Mr. Collier plays the dual role of Monsieur Armand, reputable French collector of antiques, and Colonel Piggott, head of the English detective bureau. He portrays both characters admirably, and his French, of the best Harvard variety, was intelligible, which is saying a good deal. It is safe to predict that he will be given more leading roles in the future.

The St. James players proved once more that they are at their best in melodrama. Mr. Collier was given first class support, particularly by Mr. Nedell, Mr. Richards, and Miss Blakeney. Mr. Richards paid the penalty of being known as a comedian, and the audience persisted in tittering in anticipation of the laughs that did not come.

Nothing is as stupid as recounting the plot of a mystery play, and "In the Next Room" is still familiar to many theatre goers because of its recent run at the Selwyn Theatre. But familiar or not, it is distinctly worth an evening's time, even in the mid-year examination period, for any one who is interested in Mr. Collier's progress in his dramatic career.
