Innovations Planned to Return Day to Former Prestige

Tentative plans for Graduate Day, embodying innovations which call for increased cooperation on the part of the undergraduates, were adopted at a joint meeting last Friday night of the New England Confederation of Harvard Clubs and representatives from the Student Council, it was announced yesterday. The meeting presided over by Franklin S. Billings '85, Governor of Vermont, was held following a dinner of the Confederation at the Harvard Club, at which the undergraduate representatives were guests.

A committee composed of both graduates and undergraduates was appointed to take charge of arrangements for Graduates Day which will be held sometime in April or May. The members of the committee which will cooperate in bringing the returning graduates and the students into closer contact are: F. J. Sulloway '04, Vice-President of the New England Confederation of Harvard Clubs, J. W. D. Seymour, '17, E. A. Whitney '17, D. M. Little, Jr. '17, Elliott Perkins '23, graduate members, and M. A. Cheek '26, and W. I. Nichols '26, undergraduates.

Students to Speak at Meeting

In the past only graduates have attended the meetings and the functions of their annual gatherings, and only faculty members have addressed the assemblies. As a result the assemblies have held little appeal for graduates returning to gain a better understanding of undergraduate life, and the practice of holding Graduates Day was discontinued last year.

The new policy to be initiated this year provides for student speakers at the meetings and some kind of athletic contests for the entertainment of the returning visitors. A track meet, baseball game and polo match will be ar- ranged if possible. Also undergraduates will act as hosts and guides in the first attempt at cooperation between the two bodies.

Another innovation will be the sending of invitations by the undergraduates. At the last Student Council meeting it was decided to send tentative invitations, and definite ones will be sent when the date has been set.

About 40 graduates attended the annual dinner and meeting. The New England Confederation is made up of the Harvard Clube of, Andover, Banger, Berkshire, Boston, Concord, Connecticut Valley, Fall River, Fitchburg, Haverhill, Ringham, Keene, Lawrence. Lawell, Lynn, Maine, Malden, New Bedford, New Hampshire, New Haven, Newburyport. North Shore, Rhode Island, Somerville. Taunton, Vermont, Watertown, and Wercester
