Professor J. D. M. Ford '94, Smith Professor of (French and Spanish Languages, who is now on leave of absence as Director of the American University Union in Paris, has been informed by cable that the King of Italy has made him an Officer of the Crown of Italy. Professor Ford is the third Harvard professor to be so honored within recent years.
This honor was presented to Professor E. K. Rand '94, of the department of modern languages this fall by the Italian consul of Boston, and Professor G. B. Weston '97 of the same department has been similarly honored.
Professor Ford is now on leave of absence as Director of the American University Union in Europe. . This organization provides a registration office and home for American students in Paris. It also conducts the college admission exams for European candidates for admission to American colleges.
Professor Ford starts soon on a tour of the fifteen provincial universities of France, to lecture at them all and also at the University of Madrid in Spain.
