The start of the Union squash racquets tournament before the completion of the College tournament has caused both competitions to be slowed up during this week. Half the first round matches in the Union tourney have been completed, and today's meetings in the College competition will leave only three men in the running for College titular honors.
Debevoise Meets Lenhart
At 2.30 o'clock this afternoon, G. D. Debevoise '26, Captain of the University team, will oppose P. M. Lenhart '27 for the right to enter the final round. Both Debevoise and Lenhart are in the upper half of the draw, and have worked their way to the semi-finals through stiff opposition. Debevoise was seeded number one, while Lenhart was third in the ranking. Today's loser will be the first favored contestant to suffer defeat, H. N. Rawlins '27 and R. S. Wright '26, seeded two and four, respectively, still being among the three contenders in the lower half.
Wright in Semi-Finals
Rawlins, Wright, and G. H. Perkins '26 are the rivals for finalist honors at the bottom of the draw. Wright has already clinched his place in the round before the finals, and will meet on Monday the winner of the Perkins-Rawlins clash.
Perkins was not seeded at the start of the race for the College championship, but he is sure to press Rawlins, a member of last year's championship team, to the limit. Steadiness is this veteran's forte, but if today finds Perkins at the top of his brilliant game, the favorite will be hard put to retain his position in the race.
The finals, according to present plans, are scheduled for Tuesday.
