Fall baseball will get under way tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock when University and Freshman candidates are asked to report at the Locker Building. Fred F. Mitchell, battery coach, will be in full charge and will address the squad. Equipment will be given out after the meeting, and active practice will begin at 3 o'clock Friday at the University Field.
Coach Mahan and Captain J. W. Hammond '25 are both occupied with football this fall, but the former will probably be at the Thursday meeting. He is certain to give a portion of his time, although necessarily a small one, to the diamond candidates throughout the fall.
Will Play Daily Games
Practice will begin Friday afternoon and continue as long as the weather permits. The daily schedule will include practice games between picked teams and possible informal engagements with outside nines.
Football takes a heavy toll of baseball veterans. Captain Hammond, second baseman, M. A. Check Jr. '26, and A. W. Samborski '25, catchers, Philip Spalding '25, pitcher, and A. G. Rogers '26, outfielder, are lettermen who are on the gridiron squad. C. L. Todd Jr. '26, hard-hitting outfielder, and J. E. Toulmin '26, pitcher, are the only "R" wearers available for the fall workout, but several capable substitutes should report. They include H. E. Slayton '26 and R. M. Rice '25, infielders, R. W. Cordingley '25, pitcher, and G. W. Burgess, outfielder, from the University squad of a year ago. Several second team players and 1927 Freshmen are also available.
Freshmen are included in the practice this fall for the first time. This innovation points to a more determined policy of building up Freshman material.
