A well-timed attack, with the extra has hits coming at propitious moments, gave the 1927 nine a 13 to 0 victory over the Brown Freshman team yesterday afternoon on the Freshman diamond. The Providence outfit played a loose game in the field and failed to connect with Booth's offerings, getting only one hit in the five innings in which he filled the box. The visitors collected four more from Phelps but were never dangerous with only one man reaching third base throughout the game.
The Freshmen started off with five runs in the first inning. After Bennett singled and Zarakov reached first on an error by the Brown second-baseman. Howard came through with his usual triple, crossing the plate himself a moment later, on Ullman's single. Two errors and two hits added two more tallies to the Crimson score and the batfest ended only when Mayble, the Proidence right-fielder, made a perfect throw to home catching Duchin by a close margin.
Two more runs went over the plate in the next inning when Ullman tripled with two men off the bases. de Backer, playing his first game for the 1927 nine, got two triples during the afternoon and made a difficult running catch in right field. The line-up worked well yesterday and Coach Davidson Believes that another shake-up will not be necessary.
