An inability to hit when men were on bases and a habit of making errors in the crucial moments paved the way for a 7 to 3 defeat for the Freshman nine on Saturday. The punch that marked the Huntington game last week was lacking against Dean Academy and Gate's steady pitching was offset by his bad support.
The game opened auspiciously for the 1927 team, when Bennett, the second man up, smashed a triple into center field but he never got farther than third base. In the next inning, the schoolboys used two bases on balls, a double steal and Norton's single to score two runs, and from then on kept the lead.
Both teams scored in the fifth inning. The Freshmen made their last bid in the ninth, when they loaded the bases, but two fast infield plays killed the rally at the expense of only one run.
