MODERNIST LEADER TO SPEAK AT UNION

Author of "Fair Play to the Worker" and "Socialism and Christianity"--Meeting to Begin at 4.30

At 4.30 this afternoon in the living room of the Union the Reverend Percy Stickney Grant '83 will discuss "Religion's Opportunity Today."

For 31 year Dr. Grant has been Rector of the Church of the Ascension in New York City. Lately this church has become one of the centers of the Modernist-Fundamentalist controversy, because of Dr. Grant's courageous stand for Modernism. His popular method of expounding the Gospels has attracted thousands to his church every week.

Dr. Grant gave the Modernist movement a great impulse about a year ago by a sermon, which has drawn praise and censure in the two extremes. The movement has now spread throughout the country, arousing new interest in religion.

Dr. Grant is also well known through the books he has written. These include "The Search of Belisarius", "Socialism and Christianity", and "Fair Play for the Worker".

B. McK. Henry '24, president of the Phillips Brooks House, will introduce Dr. Grant. The talk, given under the joint auspices of the Christian Association and the Union, is open to all members of the University.
