To the Editor of the CRIMSON:
Mr. Brown, the President of the Hiram W. Johnson for President Club of Harvard, says that as a result of the Teapot Dome scandal no member of the Administration for the past three years can be elected to the Presidency: "regardless of whether Secretaries Daugherty, Denby, and Fall are vindicated", he says, the discarding of the policy of the conservation of the national resources will probably prevent the election of such a candidate.
This consideration of national resources seems to me to be of minor consideration. Furthermore, the oil lands were originally leased for the use of the Navy. The legality of the leases, their transfer, and the actions of the three secretaries mentioned, are at present under consideration. In this connection it seems to me more important to consider the integrity of certain members of the cabinet than to worry at this particular time about a possible change in the conservation of resources policy. Mr. Coolidge, desiring the disclosure and punishment of guilt, if any, has stated this desire and selected counsel to act in the matter. I see nothing in the President's action to discredit his candidacy. Even if I did, I fail to see Mr. Johnson's special qualifications for the Presidency. HENRY W. KFYKS, JR. '26.
