One of the strongest schoolboy track and field aggregations in New England will be the opponent of the 1927 squad this afternoon when the first-year men meet the Huntington School in the Huntington Y. M. C. A., Boston. Eight events are included in what will be the last winter competition for the Freshman track athletes.
The Huntington team lists among the schools which it has defeated this year Worcester Academy, Newton High School and Brockton High School. Only once has it been beaten, and then it lost by only a few points to Medford, undisputed champion of the district.
Previous performances of the Crimson representatives nevertheless point to Harvard as a very possible winner. It will be surprising if any Huntington dash star will be able to head A H. Miller, brilliant Freshman sprinter. In the 45 yard low hurdles and shot put, Coach Farrell will be weakened by the absence of C. I. Paulsen, who is on leave of absence from the University. He will rely on J. J. Winstein in the former and B. L. Kilgour in the latter event to replace him.
In the high jump the Freshmen appear to be weak. In the other events, Peck, Morris, and Secrist in the 300, Brown in the 600, and Haggerty, MacMakin, and Smyth in the 1000 will be the men to watch. In the latter race, Captain Carney of Huntington School should provide brilliant dispute with Haggerty for first place.
