NAME BIG HUDSON TUBE IN MEMORY OF C. M. HOLLAND '06

By a vote of the New York State and New Jersey Tunnel Commission the Hudson River vehicular tunnel, holed through on October 29, has been named the "Holland Tunnel" in memory of Clifford Milburn Holland '06, who was chief engineer in charge of the project.

Mr. Holland died on October 28, the date of the death of Perey D. Haughton '99, at Battle Creek, Michigan, where he had been for a month on leave of absence. His death was due to overwork and consequent physical exhaustion, caused by his untiring efforts to bring the construction of the first vehicular tube in the world to a successful conclusion.

President Coolidge was to have detonated the final charge of dynamite on October 29 by an electric impulse from the White House. The ceremony was cancelled because of Mr. Holland's death.
