Under the direction of Samuel Smith '25, a Harvard String Quartette is to be organized this week. Trials for membership will be held at a time to be announced tomorrow or Wednesday.
It was announced that the purposes of the quartette would be three-fold: to encourage the rendition of the classics for stringed instruments, to increase the interests of the University and the community as a whole in music, and to enhance the enjoyment which members of the University derive from musical expression.
The quartette will play music for two violins, viola and cello: for two violins, cello and flute: for four violins and piano; and duets and trios combining a number of stringed instruments. The manager for this year will be H. L. Cabbitt '25.
