SOCCER MEN MEET PENN TODAY IN PHILADELPHIA

VICTORY OVER AMHERST HAS GIVEN TEAM CONFIDENCE

The University soccer team, encouraged by its 2-0 victory over Amherst last week, will open its league season against Pennsylvania this afternoon in Philadelphia. Besides the five league games, the Crimson will play Dartmouth next week and Springfield three weeks later.

A squad of fourteen players left Cambridge at 9.30 o'clock last night. J. E. Purdy '25, R. T. Smith '27, and A. P. Rubin '26 have been chosen as substitutes to accompany the eleven.

Despite the presence of only three veterans on the team, Alexis de Tarnowsky '26, G. D. Dorman '25, and Captain W. T. Pattison '25, the victory over Amherst, avenging last year's 2-0 defeat, showed a solid defense and a promising attack. Four of the best of last year's 1927 team, J. A. MacKinnon at right full, and K. B. M. Crooks, Hiram Gans, and W. E. Trevvett in the forward line will start the game with Thomas at goal, Wickersham at center half, Sullivan at left full, and Fordyce in the line.

The Freshmen will play Andover at Andover this afternoon.
