It was reported last night by the Cambridge Police of Station 1 that John E. Selden 1L, of Oil City, Pennsylvania, was held up and shot at last night while he was entering Winthrop Hall, on Brattle St.
Selden, who graduated from Princeton last year, reports that he encountered the hold-up man in the entry as he was entering his room at about 8 o'clock last night. The man pointed a gun at the Law Student, and asked for all that he had. At first Selden thought the matter a joke but when he saw the gun he decided otherwise. The robber then grabbed Selden's gold watch and chain, fired at him, and disappeared around the corner of the building.
Selden Describes Bandit
Selden, who said he was near enough to the man to catch hold of him, described him as about five feet four inches tall, around 25 years of age, of light build and light complexion.
Selden states that the hold-up man fired directly at him from a distance of about three feet. He also states that the cartridge was a blank, for no bullet struck him or any part of the building. From this and his nervous actions Selden believes that the man was inexporienced in the hold-up game.
