Modern music intermixed with classical will comprise the program of the Pierian Sodality's annual Boston concert, which will be given tomorrow at 3.30 o'clock in the Copley Theatre. Walter Piston '24 will conduct, and Joseph Lautner '21, tenor, will be the soloist.
The inclusion of the work of young composers in the University and out in this year's concert is in line with the Sodality's policy of experimentation with relatively unknown and less conventional music, a policy newly entered upon this season.
To represent this element in the program of the coming concert the following numbers have been chosen: "By a Lake in Russia," by Edward Ballantine, instructor in music in the University: "Waltz" by George Newell Sp. and "Tango", by Virgil Thomson. The last two are being presented for the first time.
