LONG SIGNAL PRACTICE MARKS FOOTBALL WORK

First Squad put Through Secret Drill While Seconds are Given Strenuous Conditioning Exercises

The first squad was given a long signal practice behind closed gates at the Stadium yesterday.

From two thirty until half past five the seventy-five first string men were put through starts, tackling the dummy, signal practice and dummy scrimmage.

The only break in the monotony of the afternoon came when the ends were tried out at "breaking through", the first stiff work which they have yet encountered.

This was followed by dummy scrimmaging in which a team under Captain Hubbard faced a varying team made up of the remaining members of the squad.

Captain Hubbard's team was lined up with F. K. Kernan '24 at centre, Captain Hubbard and H. S. Grew '24 at guard, C. A. C. Eastman '24 and H. T. Dunker '25 at tackles, and E. M. Beals '25 and Earl Evans 3E.S. at the ends. In the back field Philip Spalding '25 and J. J. Lee '24 alternated at quarter-back, with K. S. Pfaffmann '24, Percy Jenkins '24, and P. F. Coburn '24 filling the remaining positions.

For Coach Knox's large second team squad, cock fighting and breaking through was at first the order of the day. Later four teams were selected and each was run through signal practice by several quarter-backs for the rest of the afternoon.

Because of the first meeting of English A yesterday at 4.30 no Freshman practice was held.
