Owen will be in the pitcher's box tomorrow when the University faces the Providence nine on Soldiers Field, according to the present plans of Coach Slattery. This will be his first appearance on the mound since his Freshman year when he hurled the team to a 15 to 5 victory over the Yale freshmen in a free hitting game.
The temporary shift comes as an attempt on the part of Coach Slattery to locate the strongest pitcher available for the series with Yale. Although Owen's record as a pitcher during his Freshman year was not especially brilliant, yet Coach Slattery feels he might prove more steady than the other candidates for the position, and hence most valuable in that role. If Owen shows up well tomorrow, it is probable that he will start the first Yale game in the box. Either Hill or Norris will take his place at first base.
Yesterday afternoon the team was given a holiday and with Coach Slattery went in to see the Red Sox play. Owen alone dressed for practice, and with Manager Fordyce behind the plate, tried out his pitching arm and then went through a little batting practice.
Clark will be back in the line-up tomorrow and the batting order will probably be Clark, Gordon, Jenkins, Owen, Buell, Hill or Norris, Hammond, Burgess, and Keegan.
