With two out in the first inning, Lindley the visitor's second baseman, smashed out a triple, but Knowlton brought the inning to a close immediately afterwards, robbing Hatcher of a single by a spectacular stop of a grounder over second base.
Elis First to Score
The first run was registered in the following inning when Cowles singled, and stole second, where he remained while Brown and Andrew were retired. Hinchcliffe then came through with a base hit that brought in the first Blue tally.
In its half of the same inning, however, the Crimson evened the count. After Todd had flied out to Lindley, Holabird weakened and filled the bases, passing Field, Burton, and Allen in succession. Maher grounded to the third baseman, who caught Allen at second, but Field crossed the plate with the first Crimson run. Casto brought the inning to a close with a slow hit to first.
In the fourth, two triples gave the Blue a two run lead which was never threatened thereafter. The Crimson, made a plucky rally in the eighth, scoring six runs as the result of four singles, but the visitors' margin was too great to be overcome so late in the game.
