Saturday afternoon at Soldiers Field, the Brown baseball team retaliated for its earlier defeat at the hands of the University, a ninth inning rally giving the visitors a 7 to 4 decision over the Crimson. The University tied its opponent's early lead in the seventh with three runs and probably would have registered more, had it not been for Trumbower, who at critical points in the game deprived Gordon and Jenkins of apparently sure home runs.
University Makes a Score
After Brown had scored three times in the second inning, the Crimson came back in its half, Hammond and Hill getting on base with infield hits. Thayer also singled to center, but Hammond was cut off at the plate when he tried to score from second, Trumbower making a perfect throw home. Keegan flied out to Trumbower, Herrmann then drove the ball past third, and K. Hill came in from second for the first Crimson score. A rally that should have netted several more runs came to an untimely end when Buell flied out to Wilson in left field.
In the seventh, three singles and errors by the visitors gave the Crimson its opportunity to even up the score. All hopes of victory were shattered, however, when Brown bunched its hits and crossed the plate for three more runs in the first of the ninth.
Three members of the second team, K. B. Lucas '23, L. O. V. Mann '25, and Thorvald Sanchez '24, were promoted to the first squad and sat on the University bench at the Brown game Saturday. Lucas was formerly captain of the second team. Sacrifice hits, Higgins 2, Wilson 2, Ruckstull, Neubauer, Stolen bases, Gordon 2, Trumbower, Kneeland. Two-base hits, Keegan, Dugan.
