Crimson Chapter Caps Climax of Abbreviated Baseball Season Swamping Yale Key Men by Score of 11 to 1

Battling for the honors of the University and Alpha of Massachusetts, the local chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa came through on Saturday with a victory of 11-1 over their traditional rivals from New Haven. After only three practice sessions, the team showed excellent form and worked together with surprising unity. R. S. Fanning '23 opened the game by crashing out a home run which put the team at its ease. Yale's first man up promptly retaliated with another, tying the total; but there the scoring stopped, and throughout the rest of the game the visitors were unable to reach home, although they registered several scattered hits. Allen, Yale's star batsman, was also his team's mainstay on the defense. For several innings he held his own, but toward the end he weakened and the local players found him for hit after hit, sending the bull into the far corners of the field.

J. Wyman Jr. 23 and F. S. Pollak '23 led the batting; others who starred for the league team were H. J. Friendly '23 behind the home plate, and G. G. Dolphin '24, who substituted for C. L. Short '23 at short. J. J. Sack '23 played well at first, while M. W. Self '23 and T. Dreier '23 were the outstanding figures in the outfield. M. A. Best '23 acted as umpire.

Owing to an unfortunate delay of the visitors in the vicinity of the South Station, the game, which was scheduled for 3.30, did not begin until 7.45. The score does not represent the actual strength of the opposing teams, because a number of Yale home runs were not counted when the players failed to touch first base. The game was played in the Esculapian Room of the Harvard Club of Boston. It was called in the first half of the ninth inning on account of darkness.

The teams lined up as follows:

Harvard Chapter.--c., Friendly, Fanning; p., Wyman, Pollak; s.s., Short; c.f., Dolphin; 1b., Sack; 2b., Newhall; l.f., Black; r.f., Doolittle; c.f., Furber. Total, 11.
